Government by Grift
Patriots for Payola
There was a time when conservatives claimed to worship “law and order.” Now we’re watching a president create what critics are openly calling a taxpayer-funded reward system for the very people who smashed windows, assaulted police officers, and tried to overturn an election.
Apparently, the new definition of patriotism is, “getting arrested while wearing tactical gear, then waiting patiently for your government reimbursement check.”
The Trump administration’s new $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization fund” sounds less like public policy and more like a deleted subplot from Goodfellas. Even Trump’s own Treasury Department lawyer, Brian Morrissey, reportedly resigned within hours of the announcement.
That timing speaks louder than any press release ever could. When the top lawyer bolts for the exit right after the vault doors swing open, normal people tend to notice.
What makes this especially grotesque is the secrecy. The recipients of these payouts reportedly won’t be publicly disclosed. Imagine telling Americans struggling to pay rent, buy groceries, or fill a gas tank that their tax dollars may quietly flow toward political loyalists who treated the Capitol like a drunken tailgate party. That’s not populism. It’s a loyalty program.
Meanwhile, inflation is climbing again, gas prices are hammering working families, and public trust is circling the drain. Yet somehow the White House found time to construct a billion dollar consolation prize for people claiming they were unfairly targeted after participating in one of the most disgraceful days in modern American history.
Two officers who defended the Capitol have already sued to stop the fund, arguing it rewards political violence and places law enforcement at further risk.
Then there’s the increasingly bizarre atmosphere surrounding Trumpworld itself. A former MAGA insider now claims Elon Musk allegedly suggested he knew Trump would win the 2024 election before networks called it, supposedly through satellite data tracking.
There’s no verified evidence supporting that accusation yet…but the mere existence of stories like this tells you something important. America has drifted into a fever dream where conspiracy theories and government power now sit together at the adults’ table, sipping cocktails and trading business cards.
And hovering over all of it is the report that Trump sought help from China and Russia to weaken the International Criminal Court, which has an arrest warrant out for Benjamin Netanyahu.
The irony is almost poetic. The same crowd that once screamed about “global corruption” now seems perfectly comfortable leaning on authoritarian governments when convenient.
This is what happens when politics stops being about public service and mutates into celebrity tribalism. Facts become optional. Ethics become negotiable. Loyalty becomes currency. Every scandal gets waved away as fake news while the cash register keeps ringing in the background.
At some point Americans have to decide whether democracy is still a system of laws or merely a subscription service for powerful men and their friends. Right now, it’s beginning to look disturbingly close to the second option.

"America has drifted into a fever dream where conspiracy theories and government power now sit together at the adults’ table, sipping cocktails and trading business cards."
Shouldn't someone tell Pervy Uncle that he doesn't have the cards?
To be clear, I have no intention of actually doing this. It's just a question. How much would I receive if I go to a local city building and smash a few windows? Would it be more money if I spew racial slurs and even more if I attack someone? I'm not sure how this works.
